Find The Fundamentals - 36 hours

Fine Jewelry School offers an introductory course for students who want to create and discover fundamental jewelry techniques. This program has been established for inspired creatives that have never delved into the jewelry fabrication and would like to explore this exciting discipline. It offers someone with other full-time commitments the flexibility they need to complete their coursework. Students in this program have the opportunity to complete three pieces of their own design while fulfilling the projects' basic requirements.

During the Find the Fundamentals program students will:

Get Inspired
Draw and cultivate technical designs and sketches
Become familiar with basic design concepts
Learn to draw 3 Dimensional forms

Develop Your Jewelry Fabrication Skills
Begin basic wax carving
Become familiar with bench tools their basic uses: hammer, jeweler's saw, pliers, flexible shaft etc.
Saw and piece sheet metal
Solder multiple shapes into a pendant or earring design
Learn polishing and finishing techniques

Broaden Your Basics - 120 hours

The second tier of Fine Jewelry School is a beginner-to-intermediate course perfect for serious students who are ready to bring their craft to the next level. Students enrolled in this program may choose from a one-month intensive or a more flexible schedule to be completed in a four-month duration. They will have the opportunity to complete approximately eight projects that capture their own design aesthetic. We want students to leave the studio with pieces that they are proud to wear and are reflective of their own personal styles.

During the Broaden Your Basics program, students will:

Get Inspired
Advance their technical drawing skills
Gain a better understanding of form, space, and line
Create collages and generate inspiration through mixed media

Develop Your Jewelry Fabrication Skills
Build on wax carving skills
Saw and piece metal with dimension
Build on soldering techniques
Use bench tools to create more complex pieces of jewelry
Learn polishing and finishing techniques
Develop metal textures with the flex shaft and rolling mill
Set stones (Bezel setting/Step bezel setting)
Learn closures, connections and findings

Discover Your Direction - 240 hours

Discover Your Direction is designed to help participants to graduate from student to jeweler. Students will be provided with a fundamental jewelry fabrication skill-set they can perfect over time, with the ability to reign in their creative ideas and have them manifest as beautiful works of art. This is a 2 month intensive course or a 4 month program.

Students will leave Fine Jewelry School with approximately 12 completed projects, a small jewelry portfolio, and a multitude of jewelry manufacturing techniques.

During the Discover Your Direction program, students will:

Get Inspired
Continue to build on their technical drawing skills
Participate in workshops and attend lectures
Expand their knowledge of form in design

Develop Your Jewelry Fabrication Skills
Advance in their wax sculpting techniques
Progress into more advanced jewelry making
Discover more advanced soldering techniques
Develop metal textures using a torch, flex shaft, or rolling mill
Set stones (Bezel, Step bezel, Prong setting, Irregular stone setting)
Learn closures, connections and findings
Weave metal into a wearable chain
Dapping beads

Develop Your Design - 480 hours

The Develop Your Design course is available for full-time students only. This rigorous, yet rewarding program is great for jewelers who want a more intensive and advanced education in a condensed course. Students will gain a full understanding of the jewelry studio, master their fundamental jewelry fabrication skills, and be exposed to a variety of workshops, seminars and field trips. After completion of this program students will walk away as confident and inspired designers ready to making the time commitment to becoming a master in jewelry making.

Every designer needs a small body of work that is representative of their design aesthetic and style. This program was built with that goal in mind. Upon completion of the core curriculum, instructors work with students to help them create their own project and pieces. As a student with this level of dedication we look not only to expose you to the importance of bench work, but we will provide you with some of the basic production fundamentals as well.

During the Develop Your Design program, students will learn the following skills:

Get Inspired
Drawing and cultivate technical designs and sketches
Participate in workshops and attend lectures
Understand the use of form in design such as space versus line
Learn Jewelry History

Develop Your Jewelry Fabrication Skills
Develop more advanced wax carving techniques
Manipulate metal using specialized equipment
Discover more advanced soldering techniques
Polish metal into a high glossy shine or create a matte satin finish
Create mountainous metal surfaces with reticulation silver
Set stones (Bezel, Step bezel, Prong setting, Irregular stone setting, Pavé stone set-up)
Learn closures, connections and findings
Weave metal into a wearable chain
Advance your wax carving skills with a more intricate project
Combine wax and metal

Learn Production
Become familiar with casting
Play with alternative materials and incorporate them into their work
Understand the importance of sourcing and manufacturing
Learn the basics of business
